In a recent announcement, the IEA estimated that fossil fuel-related carbon dioxide emissions increased 3.2% in 2011 to a new record high. CO2 Emissions in 2011 reached 31.6 gigatonnes, despite a very modest decrease of emissions from OECD countries. Learn more.

Italian Agency and UNIDO Form Agreement to Transfer Knowledge and Technology to Developing Countries »
The Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development and UNIDO recently formed an agreement for technology and knowledge transfer relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency to developing countries. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has launched its 2012 Tracking Clean Energy Progress report at the third Clean Energy Ministerial in London. The report finds that most clean energy technologies are not on track to make their required contribution to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and thereby provide a more secure energy system. High Renewable Energy Penetration: New Solutions Center Research Synthesizes Lessons on Effective Policy, Regulation, Planning, and Practice »
In Abu Dhabi, Paris, Davos, and New Delhi, the Clean Energy Solutions Center recently presented preliminary results of a high renewable energy penetration analysis that we developed in partnership with several international organizations and governments. The study focuses on best practices and case study comparisons from Australia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain and the United States. The resulting report and its companion summary for policymakers synthesizes lessons on effective policies, regulations, planning, and practices for achieving and managing significant renewable energy penetration into large-scale electricity grid systems.
