This report assesses the proliferation of energy efficient appliances in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries and compares both usage and energy intensity trends between OECD member countries and non-OECD countries. It makes several projections on the estimated electricty usage for consumer electronics and telecommunications equipment until 2050 on a "business-as-usual" case and gauges the impact of both "least life-cycle cost" (LLCC) and a "best currently available technologies" (BAT) on reducing electricity use from those sectors. The report outlines several long-term policy approaches to foster energy efficiency for the electronics and communications sectors.
