Established by President Obama, the Interagency Task Force on Carbon Capture and Storage (IATFCCS) was tasked with developing a plan that would allow widespread deployment of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies in the United States within 10 years. This report outlines the findings of the IATFCCS's research activities, discussing available CCS technologies, recommendations for policy options, and the barriers to broad utilization of CCS. Overall, the report concludes there are no insurmountable barriers but a lack of financial incentives (such as a cap and trade system) is likely to hinder the broad acceptance of CCS for at least several decades.
