This road map describes progress in carbon capture and storage (CCS) since the issuance of the 2009 version of the road map. The present road map makes the case that CCS is critical to combating climate change, deployment modalities will improve through experience, incentives and regulations are a determinative factor in deployment success, CCS needs to be deployed beyond the power sector, non-OECD countries require the greatest deployment of CCS and the present decade is critical to effectively deploying CCS as part of a strategy to combat climate change. Following a discussion of potential roadblocks, the authors cite 24 actions that should be taken in support of the CCS deployment objective, with more specific tasks to be completed by 2020.
